Restoration Project

What is Restoration?

Restoration is the whole of the works carried out to ensure the repair and protection of artifacts belonging to a historical period, bearing original values and witnessing important events.

Survey, Restitution and Restoration Terms

Survey is a scaled description of the current state of a building with plans, sections and views. The survey is a tool used to prepare the restoration project. The survey provides a close examination of a building, its evaluation and documentation in terms of architectural history.
Restitution is the depiction of the condition of the parts of a building that were later changed, partially destroyed or destroyed in its original design or at a certain date, using the traces of the building, archival records and documents such as photographs, with drawings.
Restoration is the stage in which appropriate interventions are determined in order to eliminate the deterioration and structural damage in the structure in the light of the survey and restitution data.

How to Prepare the Restoration Project?

First of all, survey projects are prepared in which the current state of the structures is documented. At this stage, all the details of the structure are transferred to the drawing. In addition to drawings, structures are documented with photographs. These photographs, which were taken to convey the current condition and details of the structures that need repair, support the survey. By following this, deteriorations in the structure are detected. As a result of the evaluation of these distortions inscribed on the drawings, intervention decisions are started to be considered.

After the surveying are completed, the restitution stage is started. The original state of the building and the construction phases of different periods are determined chronologically. Historical documents, archival sources, inscriptions on the building provide important data at this stage. The first construction and repair stages of the drawing are determined and transferred to the drawings.

The restoration project is prepared with the data coming from the survey and restitution projects. The restoration project is the stage of determining the necessary interventions to stop and repair the damage after determining the internal and external causes of deterioration in the historical structure. The main restoration techniques applied at this stage are consolidation (in the material / carrier system), integration, renewal, reconstruction, cleaning and transportation. In restoration projects prepared with the contributions of different disciplines, it is aimed to protect the original, qualified, intangible and tangible values of the building and transfer it to future generations.
